We've come a long way.

Our story began with two young engineers with a vision: to bring coastal engineering expertise to the Caribbean from within the Caribbean. David Smith and Philip Warner honed their craft while working for a large Canadian engineering firm on a first-of-its-kind coastal zone management project for the island of Barbados. It was a four-year multidisciplinary endeavor funded by the Government of Barbados and the IADB. David and Philip saw the Caribbean’s vulnerability and the need to protect its uniqueness.

In 1995 they launched Smith Warner International with one tiny office in Kingston and one big project. Today, under the leadership of visionary Jamel Banton, we have 30 passionate, full-time professionals, making us the Caribbean’s largest and most comprehensive coastal engineering and zone management firm.

Meet Our Team

Our team of experts includes regional and international graduate and postgraduate-trained coastal and civil engineers, ecologists, surveyors, GIS experts, as well as a full roster of technical and administrative support. Our team is what makes us strong.

Strategic Partnering

We have enjoyed tremendous growth over our 25-year history and have built a team of expert professional engineers, project managers, surveyors, and technical support staff. We have also developed strategic partnerships that have allowed us to expand  beyond our home bases around the region and export not only our heavy equipment but also our human capital as construction engineers, project managers, contractors, or construction supervisors.
